I liked it...

Vocals were good and I might understand why some others wouldn't like it. It sounds like something Phil Collins might make. Hope the next parts of this are just as cool and maintain to theme, only building on it.

Gogehenks responds:

I don't normally respond to reviews but I thought I would with this one mostly because of the comparison to Phil, whose music I actually enjoy, ironically.

I actually took a heavy influence for this song from Pink Floyd's album "A Momentary Lapse of Reason." Specifically the tracks, A New Machine (Part 1) and A New Machine (Part 2). Should you listen to those, you'll probably find that while I'm in a different key, they're pretty similar, musically.

It doesn't help that I'm an effects whore and Fruity Loops introduced a Vocoder into later versions.

Anyways, glad you enjoyed, appreciate the review.

Lol.... no really

I'm going to have to agree with the last review, it is relatively boring. Nothing holds any excitement. It just feels too repetitive. There just isn't enough change, a lot of sounds like you just recycled the same thing over just changing it a little over time. Almost anyone would agree with me that the drums sound the same through out the song as there isn't any real depth in them, it just feels too much of the same.

Also attacking constructive criticism doesn't help your credibility as a music artist on this site.

Cool

Love the melodies. You can definitely hear the prog influences, also its kind of got a fusion feel to it. Very nice. I think the prominent time signature I noticed was 6/8. The one in the beginning felt like 5/8 into maybe 7/8, still not sure. At one point I think I might have heard 10/8. I think the calmer part felt like 5/8 too. The part around 2:00 to around 2:30 was definitely 6/8.

So my guess is you used around 4 or 5 different time signatures.

Still very cool and I liked the accents on the end of each line in the main riff. This song felt like a mix possibly between the Mars Volta and Dream Theater.

Kor-Rune responds:

Good analyzing! Once I finish a song I completely forget about the time signatures I used and have to re-listen to figure them out myself, haha.

Yeah, there are two 6/8 polyrhythms in there, one at the beginning when I change to a major key, and one before the end solo with the double bass.

The main riff is in 5/8 exactly! Except for the two times I run through that diminished ascent in the middle of what sounds like another measure starting, it actually switches to 4/4 very quickly and goes back to 5/8.

The soft part is all 5/8 except the last measure, which is 9/8, then a quick little 3/4 bit, then the 6/8 polyrhythm I was talking about earlier. Yeah, you heard right, there's a 10/8 in there too, during the solo. It has a 4/4, then 10/8, 4/4, 10/8 etc. pattern.

yay prog XD

Thanks for the review! I've only heard little of the Mars Volta, I'll need to check them out more. I've got plenty of Dream Theater already though, they're quite kickass.

Good job

I agree with the netty swobb and cwn. Screams sound like Randy from Lamb of God and the vocals at times sound like M. Shadows. Overall really awesome.

TwilightNecrosis responds:

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed.
I appreciate the review.
Metal! \m/

Damn..

Just stumbled upon this while looking through a few of your other tracks. Nice guitar work man. Never know where inspiration will come from, great job with this one.

Nice...

Its got a cool eerie feel to it. Probably from the chromatic use. The end of it makes it sound like you might use it in a future song.

Btw I made a demo for a song. Check it out and tell me what you think.

Kor-Rune responds:

Not as much chromatics as there is diminished and dissonant chords and scales. :3 But in the end, all that combined makes it pretty evil, even for standard tuning. :D

Thanks for the review, I'll check the demo now.

Awesome

Nice job, like the sax since its my second instrument. Its got a nice sound to it, I'm probably going to be blasting this on Valentines Day.

sorohanro responds:

Thanx, I got inspired by DSK SaxophoneZ (it's not a real saxophone), if you get a date with someone who makes you feel like... that should be the best song for Valentines ;)

Wow...

What can I say, but I would die to play to be playing a Castlevania game right now with this on. Thats how dark it is. In fact it is so dark and beautifully melodic that I would go to sleep with it on.

Not that great...

Its too repetitive. The tone needs to be cleaned up as its quite annoying. I find it hard to believe that this is the top.

Its good.

The chord progression sounds similar to one of my favorite songs by A Perfect Circle. I really enjoyed the feeling of it all. Its kind of one those songs in a movie or a game where the hero is stuck and recently reached a point where he found something out he didn't wish to hear.

mjattie responds:

XD thanks :) Yea, it's quite melancholic... I'm glad you liked it

I like sci fi, horror, music, art, and other things. Feel free to ask me anything.
